Point Sur State Historic Park.

Located about 20 minutes from Carmel Bay View Inn, Point Sur State Historic Park in Big Sur is the only complete, historic Lightstation in California that's open to the public. The Point Sur lighthouse has operated continuously since 1889. Three-hour, docent-led hikes through the premises are available year-round on weekends and seasonally on Wednesdays. Carmel River State Beach.

Carmel River State Beach, located on Carmel Bay off Highway 1, stretches a mile long offering visitors a unique destination for beachcombing and bird watching. A lagoon, situated in a spot just before the Carmel River runs into the sea, is home to dozens of waterfowl and other remarkable birds. Ocean swimming and wading are not advised due to strong ocean currents.

Point Lobos State Natural Preserve.

It has been said that Point Lobos is the "greatest meeting of land and water in the world." Marked by a rugged landscape and roaring sea, Point Lobos is a favorite location for nature photographers, wildlife observers, scientists and artists. Point Lobos also offers jogging and hiking trails and is a popular launch point for experienced Scuba divers. Guided nature hikes are available.
